NOVI, Mich. (WXYZ/CNN) - This holiday season, police officers in one Michigan town are giving traffic violators gift cards instead of tickets.

The Novi Police Department will hand out $25 Target gift cards to random drivers throughout December.

"Anytime we pull someone over it's usually for speeding or some other moving violation. So, to put a spin on it and do something positive, it's a great feeling," said Officer Samantha Grockau.

Moes on Ten, a local restaurant in Novi, donates the gift cards to the department each year.

Grockau said surprising drivers with this act of kindness "helps us show a different side of the department."
