(Meredith) – A 51-year-old Florida man fired three shots and scared off a group of teens who planned to kidnap his daughter and burglarize his home, police said.

The four teens, who were armed with weapons and duct tape, targeted the family because they thought the father was wealthy, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Deputies said the teens used barrels to block off the road to the family’s home Tuesday night. The homeowner’s 17-year-old daughter saw the barrels and immediately called her father. The teens hoped this distraction would force her out of the car, but she kept driving.

A short time later, the father heard his dogs barking and someone slam a car door. Then, his motion-activated floodlights turned on.

He grabbed his gun and went outside, where he saw the teens trying to force their way into his garage. The homeowner fired his weapon and the intruders fled into the woods.

Authorities later caught up with the suspects after a tip from an alert neighbor. They were identified as Keilon Johnson, 19, Austin French, 17, Tyree Johnson, 16, and Kamauri Horn, 15.

All four suspects are charged with attempted kidnapping and attempted home invasion robbery.
