EDWARDSVILLE, KS (KCTV) -

Three people have died and two children were hurt after a wreck on Kansas Highway 32 in Edwardsville.

It happened Thursday night near 102nd Street, just under the I-435 overpass.

Investigators say a car heading westbound on K-32, crossed over the median and hit another car head-on.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 42-year-old Arron Ashlock of Kansas City, KS was driving the car that crossed over the median. He died at the scene. It is unclear if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Troopers say he was involved in a separate crash before he crossed the center median.

Ashlock's brother said he was the best big brother.

The driver of the other car, 29-year-old Sarah Galutia of Overland Park, died in the crash along with 33-year-old Ashley Gonzalez of Shawnee, who was a passenger. Troopers said neither of them were wearing their seatbelts.

Gonzalez had her 11- and 12-year-old daughters in the car. They were both wearing their seatbelts.

On Saturday, friends of the family said the girls are still being treated at the University of Kansas Hospital and are in critical condition.

They have no mother to come home to.

Gonzalez’s and Galutia’s friends are still trying to grasp what happened.

“I haven't wrapped my mind around it yet,” Julie Strough said. “I'm still waiting for her to pull in the driveway and come home.”

“It breaks my heart,” Ashley Kalec said. “It really does. For as much as it hurts me that Sarah and Ashley are gone, I can't imagine how their kids are going to feel. This whole situation is terrible.”
