The Walmart in Roeland Park was evacuated for an hour on Thursday night.

The announcement came about 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Employees said there was an announcement over the intercom telling those inside to leave the building.

Police have not released the reason why it was evacuated, but employees told KCTV5 News that what happened that night has been happening a lot lately.

That may be why so many of them seemed remarkably unconcerned as the store entrance was blocked with two police officers standing outside. Many of them played music and had people stopping by to visit while they waited for the go-ahead.

The employees all indicated the store was emptied due to a bomb threat. However, KCTV5 News waiting for police confirmation before reporting that as the actual cause.

Two employees were more concerned than others, however.

One wasn't confident the store was checked thoroughly enough before reopening. She said she saw no bomb squad or bomb dogs.

One employee said the evacuation announcement was in English only. Another said it was made in both Spanish and English. The store draws many Spanish-speaking customers. One employee said that at least one customer was not aware he was being told to evacuate until a bilingual employee informed him face-to-face.

Without confirming the reason for their presence, an officer told KCTV5 News that they have protocols for situations like this and that they were following them.
