KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Joshua and Jasmine Brunt made their first court appearance via video conference with a judge in Wyandotte County Tuesday morning.

They both face identical charges accused of kidnapping of Joshua Brunt’s 2-year-old son, Jace Brunt, on Friday. They are both expected back in court early next week.

Both face charges of aggravated interference with parental custody, aggravated assault, battery and aggravated endangering of a child.

According to police, Joshua Brunt took Jace from his mother. She says he had a gun. The situation caused an AMBER alert to be issued.

Jasmine Brunt called the KCTV5 newsroom to dispute reports that she and Joshua Brut used a gun and Mace when taking Jace but says it was his mother who had the gun and Mace. She also said they were bringing Jace to police.

It was a roller coaster of emotions for Ja'lisa Harris as she waited to see her 2-year-old son again.

Our cameras were rolling as she and her family watched the toddler being handed over to police live on KCTV5 News.

"Oh my God, look at my baby!” she said.

Watch the moment she realized her son he was safe here.
