KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A woman has been taken to the hospital after her vehicle slammed into a house early Tuesday morning.

It happened about midnight at a home in the 9800 block of James A Reed Road.

An SUV was driving south on James A Reed Road when it left the road and hit the home. The vehicle ripped a hole in the side of the house and left a street sign in the driveway.

Police say the woman driving the car was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The woman who owns the house was in a back room. Her son came to the home, after the crash, to make sure she was safe. He says she is okay but that she was shaken up by the crash.

Officers are investigating what caused the vehicle to leave the road and hit the home.
