Wrong-way driver killed in crash on 50 Highway

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -

A wrong-way driver was killed in a crash on 50 Highway east of Lee's Summit this afternoon.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. at Harris Road.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, three vehicles were involved in the accident. 

One of the vehicles, a 2004 Honda, was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of 50 Highway. 

The Honda hit a 2005 Toyota head-on, then hit a 2004 Chevrolet head-on. 

The wrong-way driver, 83-year-old Mary L. Cassidy, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The Honda and Chevrolet were totaled. The Toyota had extensive damage.

 All three drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

MSHP cannot say at this time whether the weather was a contributing factor or not.
