KC cleans up after storms cause flooding

A heavy band of thunderstorms moved across the metro and caused flooding overnight. 

Flash flooding was reported in Westport with water being as much as 10" deep in spots.

A flash flood watch was in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday.

Flood warnings were also issued most parts of the metro.

Roads were also being shut down due to high water from the storms.

KCMO Fire Chief Paul Berardi tweeted out about a couple of water rescues that had occurred. All passengers were safely rescued from those vehicles. 

Chief Berardi also tweeted about the cost of trying to drive in high water.

  • Saturday's Royals game was postponed and will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on August 6th. The first game will begin at the regularly scheduled time of 1:15 and the second game to start within 30 minutes of the completion of game one. You can find more information here.
  • The Johnson County Fair Parade
  • The Theatre in the Park canceled Saturday's performance of Beauty and the Beast. Because it's the last performance of the season, refunds will be issued on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
  • All the outdoor pools in Lenexa were closed for the day.
