KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A final public forum is set to take place to help decide whether Kansas City Public Schools will reopen Lincoln Junior High.

The conversation has been taking place since fall of 2015.

It was a recommendation from the steering committee to help alleviate the overcrowding of students at Lincoln Prep.

Lincoln Prep currently has 1,045 students enrolled which is past their maximum limit.

The idea is that Lincoln Junior High would open up enough seats to move the junior high students out of the high school and into the junior high.

That would help solve the problem of both space and scheduling.

School officials say the parents are an important part of the decision-making process.

KCTV5 News was told there was a large turnout of parents at the first two meetings.

Phase two of the public forum was set to take place on Thursday night at Lincoln Prep.

If it's approved this fall by the board, the goal would be to have a ribbon cutting in the fall of 2019.
