KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A Kansas City man has been charged in a fatal shooting near 37th Street and Woodland Avenue.

John A. Frazier, 35, faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.

According to court records, witnesses told police that Tamara Randolph went to the residence to retrieve her two children on Wednesday evening.

Police responded to a call to the 3700 block of Woodland and found her on the ground. She was dead on the scene.

Police found a note on the north door of the residence asking Frazier to let her have the kids back. Video surveillance showed Randolph arriving at the residence and knocking on the door.

Frazier arrives at the residence and appears to be holding a gun. Just before ShotSpotter recorded seven sounds of shots, the video shut down.

A relative of the victim said Frazier pulled a gun on her. After the witness heard the victim yell her children's names, she heard a struggle, then nothing. She stayed on the phone until she heard sirens. She said Frazier had taken the victim's children two months ago and had not returned them.

Prosecutors requested a $250,000 cash bond.
