KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Raids, rapes and even death, these are just some of the issues causing officials to take a closer look at the troubling issues going on at Jackson County Detention Center.

On Thursday, legislators will meet to discuss the ongoing struggles.

Most recently, the jail didn’t have enough guards on staff, so all visits were suspended for the week of July 31 to Aug. 4.

Also, during an overnight raid in July, the guards and other employees were accused of smuggling phones and cigarettes to inmates.

Rapes and guard attacks have been reported and in the past five years, 30 lawsuits have been filed against the detention center.

During Thursday’s meeting, legislators will also examine the findings of a recent jail audit.
