KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating a murder after a woman was shot near 37th Street and Woodland Avenue.

Someone called 911 for help about 3 p.m. Thursday. When officers got to the scene, they found a woman had already died from her injuries.

Police have identified the woman as Tamara Randolph, 36, of Kansas City, MO.

One person is in custody.

Officers are on scene collecting evidence and interviewing possible witnesses.

It's the city's 87th homicide of the year.

A woman who lives in the Ivanhoe neighborhood said she heard gunshots while gardening.

"I was planting flowers in my garden, heard seven or eight shots," said Emily Snyder. "Five minutes later, police came. I walked up the hill to see what was going on. That's when they put the tape up and told me to come back here. I saw them put a gentleman in handcuffs."
