KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

On Monday, August 21, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the entire nation for the first time in 99 years. 

Starting from Oregon to South Carolina, 14 states will experience more than two minutes of totality, including the state of Kansas. 

The path of totality will be slicing through the northeast corner of Kansas and observers in KCK will experience 23 seconds of darkness. 

Partial phase will begin at approximately 11:41 a.m. with totality starting at approximately 1:08 p.m. 

Below is a list of viewing parties and events happening in Kansas City, KS during the eclipse.


Kansas City T-Bones Viewing Party – Grab your blankets and head to CommunityAmerica Ballpark, home of the Kansas City T-Bones, for a spectacular Solar Eclipse Viewing Party.  The first 200 people will receive complimentary tickets for that night’s home game. Food will be available for purchase and free solar eclipse glasses will be available for viewing.  The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Contact the T-Bones at (913) 328-2255 or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com

Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery Viewing Party – View the Solar Eclipse with a glass of wine, sangria or wine slush on the deck of Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery. Wine and pizza will be available for purchase. Free solar eclipse glasses will be available for viewing. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the Rowe Ridge Vineyard and Winery at (9130 721-9776 or online at www.roweridge.com

Solar Eclipse Zip Tour at Zip KC - Go on a Hike & Zip or Tower Tour during the eclipse, enjoy a catered lunch and receive free eclipse viewing glasses. Space is extremely limited.  Sign up at (913) 214-9478 or online at www.zipkc.com


Eclipse viewers are asked to take proper precautions in protecting their eyes. The Kansas City Kansas Convention & Visitors Bureau will be distributing free certified Eclipse Shades through our partners at the following hotels and attractions listed below, while supplies last.

Hotels - All guests checking in at a KCK hotel on Sunday, August 20, will receive a complimentary commemorative certified solar eclipse glasses.

Attractions - KCK businesses will be handing out eclipse glasses to ticket holders and guests on the following dates:

  • Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark – August 19, 20.
  • Kansas City T-Bones – August 19, 20.
  • Sporting KC – August 19.
  • Cabela’s – August 21.
  • Richard Petty Driving Experience – August 19, 20.
  • All Wyandotte County Museums – August 19, 20.
  • Rowe Ridge Vineyard & Winery – August 21.
  • Legends Outlets Kansas City (Management or Security Office) – August 19-21.


Visitors may also pick up a complimentary pair at the Kansas City Kansas Convention & Visitors Bureau office anytime during business hours starting Tuesday through August 21, located at 755 Minnesota Avenue. The office will be open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
