KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One neighborhood is on guard against would-be thieves targeting their cars, as several cars have been hit in the area of Brookside.

One victim included Katie van Dieren, who says she accidentally left her car unlocked.

"They went in. You can see it's still dirty...they went through there and went through there, and threw it all," she said. "I felt a little violated. I felt violated that someone was that close to our house with lights on."

Van Dieren says the incident hasn't changed her view of the area or how safe she feels.

"This street is so busy and I've lived here almost eight years and I've never felt nervous or anything," Van Dieren said.
