PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS (KCTV) -

Flames engulfed a home in Prairie Village on Sunday morning.

Neighbors say a young couple lived there with their baby and were not home when the fire broke out.

They say the couple just moved in during the spring and worked hard to renovate the home, located in the 4500 Block of West 91st Street.

They left to spend time with family at the lake for the weekend.

“We heard a loud boom – and you don’t know what that is. Is it thunder? But I think they saw a tree limb fell on their gas line and caused a spark and that’s what started the fire," said Anthony Robinson, a neighbor who lives directly across the street.

Firefighters believe it's unlikely the gas line sparked on its own.

They think it's possible a lightning strike may have ignited the gas.

The National Weather Service says there were lightning strikes earlier in the evening.
