KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

With 20 days to go, astronomers have some tips for anyone who wants to get the most out of the upcoming eclipse.

They believe the Kansas City area is one of the best in the country to watch the show.

No matter where you're at, you are going to see something that is rare to Earth. Equipment at observatories, like The Warko at the University of Missouri Kansas City, won't be needed to check out the spectacular sight.

"If you're trying to watch the solar eclipse in just a few weeks, don't come here--or to any observatory," said Joseph Wright of the Warkoczewski Public Observatory. "They'll be empty as astronomers seek out an area where they can see the moon completely cover the sun."

Wright says the event will last less than three minutes and it's something you don't want to miss.

He also gave KCTV5 an idea of what you can expect to experience and how it's so much different from a cloudy day.

"The moon is blocking all the electromagnetic radiation from the sun, so temperature can drop and will drop," Wright said. "You won't be feeling that energy. It's going to get dark. Now it's not going to be midnight, but it's going to get rather dark compared to when the sun is out."

For those of you still trying to get ready, Wright says on top of having special glasses, make sure you also have water and a full tank of gas in case you need to move to another location.
