KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Summer doesn't have to break the bank. There are plenty cheap, and even free, activities across the metro.

One of the attractions is even giving away bags of money. There is one caveat though. The money will be shredded before it's given to you, but it is still a cool souvenir for the kids.

The Money Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is open 9:30 - 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and closed on weekends and bank holidays.

The museum is an interactive exhibit where you can see the largest cash vault in the area.  You can even lift a 27-pound gold bar and see Harry Truman's coin collection.

And on Thursday and Friday, hop on the nostalgia bus with your kids and head to the library to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Little Golden Books.

Poky Little Puppy will be there to meet your children for story time, and the Kansas City Public Library is giving away free Little Golden Books.

The Plaza Branch and the Irene H. Ruiz and Lucile H. Bluford locations are open for this event.

The Deanna Rose Farmstead is hosting a free children’s concert Thursday night. Music at the Farmstead starts at 6:30 p.m. Dino O'Dell is performing.

The farmstead is also offering free admission all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And finally, if you want to get outside, even more, head to Olathe's Ernie Miller Park and Nature Center.  You can enjoy bird watching, trekking through nature or checking out the educational exhibits.
