KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

The General Motors plant in Fairfax is preparing to shut down for the second time this summer.

It will be two weeks long. The previous one was in June, and that was also two weeks.

The shut down this year is twice as long because of slumping car sales. And to cope with lower demand, earlier this year, GM announced they’ll be cutting a number of productions shifts from three to two.

This means up to 1,000 full-time employees being laid off, and there’s more. Workers will get, yet another, week off after the August shut down as GM adjusts their inventory.
