CASS COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

People in Cass County by Lake Annette were overwhelmed with water when the rains came through this week. Many lost cars and plenty of their possessions because of the damage.

After the flood waters subsided, there was a lot of mud and a lot of water damage.

Edna Burns is just one of many people out at Lake Annette trying to clean things up after storms brought water levels right up to her back porch, even at four feet off the ground with her foundation.

"So we got up and we had no warning really, basically, and then we just tried to put things up and just move forward so we were very very fortunate that we didn't have it in our home," Burns said.

Without that warning, Burns said water ultimately took out three vehicles and a motorcycle, but she's grateful it didn't take more.

"We're just going to make the best of it, that's it," Burns said.

Across the lake, Kathy Welborn took pictures as she watched water levels rise. She was thankful her property wasn't impacted this time.

"Some of the people, this is their first time going through it and some of them, they're roadies at it. They've been through this before, but this is home and they'll stay," she said.

That feeling that this is home and people would say was shared by many Friday, even as they worked to get things cleaned up.

Showing in the face of struggle, they are willing to persevere and work together to get things back to normal.
