Some families were forced from their homes after water levels quickly rose near Lake Annette, Missouri this morning.

Boats have been going to homes to rescue people and bring them to safety.

Forty-six people and some children had to be rescued from their homes near Lake Annette.

To the middle of South Lake Annette Road is as far as one could go because fast-moving water covered a large area. The lake is a half a mile from there. In some parts, water on land rose above 5 feet.

Homes were partially underwater in the Missouri town.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said they received more than a hundred 911 calls around 6 a.m. from people trapped inside their homes.

The sheriff’s office sent out a county-wide alert on Thursday, telling neighbors to avoid travel if possible.

KCTV5 News talked to a pastor who went out to check on two of his members who called him this morning to ask for prayers.

“We were having bible study this morning and she called and she said, ‘Pray for us because we’re standing in water right now,” said Pastor Sandy Harris with the First Christian Church. “I said, ‘What can we do?’ She said, ‘Nothing. We’ll let you know. Just pray for us.’”

The pastor said he hasn’t been able to reach them yet.

At least five law enforcement agencies around the county had to assist with water rescues.

Those families evacuated and are staying with relatives and friends. Many are wondering when they will find out when they can return home.

Water levels are receding, but not fast enough for families to return home tonight.
