STILWELL, KS (KCTV) -

Large pieces of blacktop washed away due to this morning’s heavy rains near 171st and Mission Road in Stilwell.

One neighbor said the flooding was the worst he'd seen in his neighborhood since 1978.

Many roads closed due to flooding from 151st to 171st and Kenneth Road. Residents had a hard time getting in and out of their neighborhoods.

Allan Kraybill said, “We've been out here since 1996 and this is the worst we've seen. We've had several that were pretty close, but not any that have come up and completely flooded some of the areas it did this morning.”

He said three of the four routes he can take to leave his home were all flooded at the same time.

The water had gone down quite a bit but still covered the roadway in some low-lying spots.

The heavy rains damaged several roads.

Lloyd Anderson, who lives near the flooding, said it "just literally washed the blacktop off the surface and into the ditch about 20 yards.”

Crews have started surveying the damage. Heavy machinery could be seen near the damaged roads.
