KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A 45-year-old KCK man has been convicted of killing a pet turtle.

On Wednesday, a Jackson County jury found Lonnie V. Mitchell guilty for damaging a house in the 5500 block of Woodland in June 2016 and for killing a pet turtle, called "Seymour" by family members.

Mitchell will be sentenced in September.

Both the property damage conviction and the animal abuse conviction are punishable by a sentence of up to four years in prison.
