KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Several box trucks in an industrial area near North Cambridge Avenue and Universal were spray painted with racial slurs overnight.

To make matters worse, one was even torched. Businesses in the area don't know who would do something like that or why.

The words spray painted are racial slurs against African Americans.  People who work in the area say at least three businesses were hit.

When driver Aaron Farrar came to work at Secured Transportation about 2 a.m. Tuesday he noticed a truck smoking and several others spray painted with racial slurs.

"I'm stunned. I can't believe that we're still at a point in America where this is, you know, someone's mindset would even think  this is acceptable,” Farrar said.

The area houses several transportation businesses, and Farrar says there has been a problem with thieves in the past, but it's never been anything racially motivated.

"People coming and stealing different things off trucks. The company across from ours, they have a fence where they actually put their trucks inside because they had all their catalytic converters cut off their trucks,” Farrar said.

Many of the trucks vandalized belonged to Serpro Logistics.

The front window at Embassy Lawn and Landscaping was also spray painted.

Security cameras are mounted on parts of the building and many hope they caught the vandals. But, some think the suspect could a former employee.

"You can think a lot of ways you got to think obviously, it had to be somebody that maybe worked for one of these companies. Seems like to me it was targeted to Serpro because you know it happened to their vehicles with the bad stuff,” said Percy Smith, owner of Kareem Transportation

Smith just wants whoever did this to come forward.

"Be the brave tough guy and come out and say, ‘I did it,’ because it makes more sense. If you got that much hatred then be a man about it and come face the nation,” Smith said.

Police are investigating.
