MAYETTA, Kan (WIBW) --- Family and friends will bid farewell to a Jackson County, KS boy who lost his life after a fireworks explosion.

Colby Harris’ Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26th inside the St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton.

Colby will lie in state Tuesday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call Friday after an apparent explosion.

When deputies arrived to the Mayetta home, they found Colby dead.

An investigation found that Colby was experimenting with fireworks and other small explosives.

His preliminary cause of death is massive blood loss caused by shrapnel.

Authorities say Colby was home alone for a short time before the accident.
