FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

Storms that passed through the metro on Saturday night caused many power outages, with the outage numbers reaching up to over 115,000 people without power.

At 3 p.m., KCP&L said: "Power to 90,000 customers restored, with 50,000 without power. We expect outages to last into tomorrow." "This will be a multiple day restoration event and we expect outages to go into tomorrow," they said early in the day.

Just before 1:30 p.m., BPU said: "Extra crews are coming in but we still have 12,000 customers out. There is now way to give you an estimate on when power will be restored but the restoration efforts will go through the night and into tomorrow."

Westar Energy is saying that their customers should all be back online by Midnight tonight.

For a list of cooling centers, you can call 211. Always remember to use generators in well-ventilated areas to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

Two churches have canceled services for Sunday because of not having power.

  • Crossroads Christian Church – Shawnee
  • Valley View UMC – Overland Park

High waters were an issue and tree limbs were blown down throughout the metro by 70 mph winds.

A tree fell onto a house in the 5800 block of W. 77th Terrace in Prairie Village.

Lightning reportedly hit a house in the 13300 block of W. 137th Terrace in Overland Park. No one was injured.

On Saturday night, KCFD Chief Paul Berardi tweeted out that storm-related calls kept coming in and to not drive through high water.

Several events were delayed or canceled due to the threatening storms.

Starlight Theatre was hosting Journey and Asia when the weather forced the cancellation of the concert.

F.C. Kansas City was put on delay due to a threat of lightning, with the match eventually being postponed.

The city of Lenexa was forced to cancel their Moonlight Bike Ride due to the weather.

Some local churches did cancel services on Sunday morning, as well.
