KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a shooting at a car wash that has left a man dead.

The shooting happened on Friday evening in the area of Independence Avenue and Topping Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

A man in his 20s was killed while he was parked inside the Avenue Car Wash. When police arrived, they saw his legs sticking out of the car. The man had already died.

Nearby business owners heard the shots, but couldn't see the victim because he was in the car wash bay.

There was a man washing his car in the next stall who was not hurt. He ran to get help when he heard the shots.

Police are interviewing witnesses and checking nearby businesses for video surveillance.

There is no suspect information at this time and police say it's too soon to speculate about a motive.

One man who was in the area has fond memories of his childhood nearby. However, said that this kind of thing is exactly why he moved elsewhere.

"Growing up in this neighborhood, I enjoyed it," John Vargas explained. "I rode my bike as a kid around this area. I would not want to raise my kids in this area anymore."

"The majority of my family still lives here," he said. "I would love for them to move out. I mean, I've spent the night at my mom's house and I can't go to sleep because there's always sirens going off."
