Authorities search for inmate who walked away from Leavenworth Co. Jail

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

Authorities in Leavenworth County are searching for an inmate after they say he walked away from a job assignment later Thursday night.

Officials say George Joseph Burgess Jr., 38, walked away from his assignment at the Leavenworth County Jail at about 11:45 p.m.

Several area law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search.

Officers say they have searched known locations where Burgess had previous affiliations.

Burgess is not believed to be armed.

Officials say Burgess is now cleanly shaven.

Anyone with information about Burgess are asked to call the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office (913) 682-5724.
