KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A 2-year-old girl was found walking alone on a neighborhood street in Old Northeast Thursday morning.

Her grandmother was located several hours later.

Police say the little girl escaped from a home in the 100 block of North Drury Avenue because she's able to unlock the doors herself.

A nearby resident had seen the little girl outside walking and called police about 7 a.m. Police then went door-to-door asking people if they knew the girl or where she lived.

Eventually, police were able to reunite her with her grandmother a couple hours later after she saw her granddaughter on the news.

There were no charges filed against the grandmother, but they are working with the Missouri Department of Social Services Children's Division for better safety measures.

Police says the grandmother had been upstairs in her bedroom which is why she didn't know her granddaughter got out.

The grandmother told KCTV5 News that she was thankful her granddaughter is back safe with family.
