PAOLA, KS (KCTV) -

Authorities in Paola performed a water rescue after a group of teens entered a closed lake early Wednesday morning.

A Paola Police Department officer was patrolling the closed Lake Miola swim beach at about 1:15 a.m. The officer says three people ran from the shoreline into the water. Three other people ran on foot, staying on land.

Others stayed behind and spoke with the officer. They told the officer that they all had been consuming alcohol.

All of the people are under the age of 18, except for a 19-year-old man.

Officers rescued a juvenile girl from the water after she struggled to tread water. They also located a juvenile boy who was thought to be in the water. The boy says a girl who went into the water with him was also able to make it out of the lake safely before running on land.

The water rescue team from the Osawatomie Fire Department was contacted and asked to assist in the search.

Everyone involved in the incident is believed to be safe.

Officers are continuing to search for the people who ran on foot.
