The recommendation came from a steering committee for the school two years ago and has been on the table ever since. Now, the school district is reconsidering the measure and want to hear from residents.

A meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Troost Elementary, 1215 E 59th St. They’re wanting input from parents and the community to bring back a school shut down during 2010’s right sizing.

"We currently have 1,022 students enrolled for the 2017-2018 school year, the capacity of that building is 1,025. So we know there's a high demand for Lincoln," said Natalie Allen with Kansas City Public Schools. "For what we're exploring, it would open up 300 seats at the high school level and then 300 new seats at the middle school level."

The plan would re-open Lincoln Junior High which historically could hold around 700 students. It would separate middle school and high school students into two different buildings – which would not only solve the space problem – but scheduling as well.

"When you think about kids taking gym or eating lunch," said Allen, "we definitely have a lot of students trying to do all those things at the same time. So we are having to address that by having gym class across the street in the middle school building. This would help address that as well."
As far as when the doors could open, Allen says they aren’t ready to put a firm date on that just yet.

"That's a hard question to answer right now. We are not putting a timeline on it because obviously, we need input from the community. We would need the board's support. So in order to put a timeline on something, we have to get approval from everyone involved. So it's hard to say," Allen said.

Another meeting is set from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at Manual Career and Technical Center, 1215 E Truman Rd.
