KCK man pleads guilty to killing girlfriend, harming kids in home

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A KCK man has pleaded guilty to murder and assault in 2016 killing his girlfriend and the harming of children in the home.

Derrick A. Williams pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault as well as three counts of armed criminal action.

As part of the agreement, he was sentenced to 28 years on the murder charge and 15 years on the other charges. All sentences will run concurrently. 

According to court records, Williams was found by Kansas City police officers outside a building in the 2500 block of Independence Avenue on July 28, 2016. He was naked.

Police found a gun inside the building they found bullet holes and three small children.

One told officers he had killed their mother, Denise Gayle. Her body was found nearby in a bathroom.

One child said he hit him with a gun and another witness stated to police that Williams also put the gun to the head of another child.
