OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

For an Overland Park woman, whose car was stolen, it's not what she lost but what she found that has led her on a search for answers.

Ruby Ravine only stepped away from her Honda Accord for a second to drop off a movie rental.

"I turned around and it was gone. I thought I was crazy. Retraced my steps and nope, my car's really gone," she said.

But more than a week later, she got some good news from police.

"I got a call that my car had been recovered," she said.

Whoever stole it left a mess. She found odds and ends like shotgun slugs, tools and a different set of floormats.

"I'm sure I'll be able to use these someday," she said.

But the strangest thing she found was a torn up piece of paper. It was a handwritten love letter.

"It was addressed to a young lady. He said he messed up so bad and that he'd probably shoved her into the arms of another man," she said.

Ravine compares it to a soap opera. The forlorn author even signed his name. She found him on Facebook and sent him a message hoping to find a connection.

"He didn't respond," she said.

Now, she hopes people will stay vigilant to keep their possessions safe.

"Don't leave your car for a moment, even if you think it's right there and you can see or hear it," she said.

Ravine has passed all of the information she has gathered to police hoping they can help catch the thief.
