ROELAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

City officials are trying to decide if the Roeland Park pool will stay open year-round or become a seasonal pool.

Right now, the county and the city split the costs to keep the pool operating year-round. However, in 2019, that agreement will be over and the city would be responsible for all the costs.

City administrators have said they would need an additional $175,000 to keep the pool open year-round. On the other hand, if it changes to a summer-only facility, they’d be able to cover those costs under their existing budget.

Residents who use the pool say they’d like to keep the pool open if they don’t have to pay for it.

My Rieper, who uses the pool, isn’t sure the benefit of having the pool open year-round would outweigh the cost. “I know that would also mean the city would have to absorb that cost and it will probably end up going to me as a taxpayer, so I’m kind of divided on that,” Rieper said.

City administrators have said they feel confident they'll have a resolution by 2019.
