MERRIAM, KS (KCTV) -

Westbound lanes of Shawnee Mission Parkway are closing Friday night at 8 p.m.

A stretch of the parkway from Mastin to Interstate 35 will be resurfaced by the Kansas Department of Transportation. They say closing the road for the weekend will save them three weeks of construction work if they had to leave the road open.

Consumer business does not expect to be impacted by the closure due to accessibility from Johnson Drive via Mastin.

However, the detours could cause congestion on the alternate routes.

Here is what you need to know about the I-35 exits.

If you are going south on I-35, you must take either 75th Street or Johnson Drive. Exits to I-35 South are closed in both directions on Shawnee Mission Parkway.

If you are going north, you can exit on Shawnee Mission Parkway eastbound, not westbound.

Getting onto I-35, the exit to northbound will be open but the exit to southbound will be closed.

To get around the westbound closure, use the detours Johnson Drive or 75th Street. The lanes will reopen before the Monday morning commute.

Expect the eastbound lanes to close next weekend in the same time frame.
