KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

One person is dead after a fiery crash Friday morning in the Northland.

The wreck happened just before 5:55 a.m. in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 169 and Shoal Creek Parkway.

Police say a gold four-door car caught fire and that one person was trapped inside.

Police say the car was going at a high rate of speed before it crashed underneath an overpass after leaving the road and running into a fence on the ledge. Then it burst into flames.

The driver was trapped inside the car and died.

The highway was shut down for hours while authorities investigated the accident and cleaned up the fence, but it has reopened now.
