KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man was killed when someone ran a stoplight, causing a pair of vehicles to collide late Thursday evening. Now, that driver has been charged with a DWI.

Jason Evans, a 20-year-old from Leavenworth, is now facing a charge of driving while intoxicated, a class B felony.

Prosecutors have requested a $100,000 bond.

The crash happened about 11:07 p.m. at the intersection of 75th Street and The Paseo.

Police say a maroon pickup truck and a white Chevrolet sedan were involved in the accident.

Officers say the pickup was driving eastbound on 75th Street when it was hit by the white sedan heading northbound.

The pickup overturned and then hit a tree. The driver, and lone occupant of the truck, was trapped inside the vehicle.

Both the driver of the truck and the man driving the white sedan were taken to an area hospital.

The driver of the pickup died at the hospital. That man has been identified as Stephen Russell.

The driver of the sedan, Evans, was in serious but non-life threatening condition.

Officers say Evans ran a stoplight at the intersection and was also going the wrong way on Paseo.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor, Evans was driving at a high rate of speed and hospital staff said he smelled strongly of alcohol.

A traffic light was knocked down during the accident, as well.
