KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The Invicta Fighting Championships have invaded Kansas City.

They take place at the Scottish Rite temple on Saturday night.

A Missouri fighter in the co-main event, Ashley Cummins, only had to make the drive down I-70.

“I have so many friends and family coming in," said Cummins. "I sold about 50 tickets. They will support me like they did last fight.”

Cummins has been a fighter for 10 years and a cop for 8. The two professions benefit each other but rarely cross paths...until her last fight.

“My friend and my co-worker Blake Schneider was shot and killed in the line of duty last October," she said. "It’s been hard on my department and the St. Louis area.”

When she found out she would get a bigger stage with Invicta, she knew she wanted to honor him in some way.

“When I got the win I was able to get that microphone and let everyone know that he is a hero,” Cummins said.

Now, the stage gets bigger. A win on Saturday for her means a shot an Invicta Atomweight title. Another chance to carry her co-worker, friend and hero into the octagon with her.
