LEAWOOD, KS (KCTV) -

Loved ones will gather Thursday morning to remember Cerner Corp. co-founder and CEO Neal Patterson.

Patterson died July 9 of unexpected complications from a soft-tissue cancer for which he had been treated previously. He was 67.

Former United States Sen. John Danforth and pastor Adam Hamilton will lead a public funeral service at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave., in Leawood. A private burial service will follow.

Anyone wishing to leave a public remembrance may do so by sending an email to memories@cerner.com.

For those interested in sending a card, they may be sent to the following address:

Patterson was also the co-owner of Sporting Kansas City. His life will be celebrated further when Sporting KC welcomes the Chicago Fire to Children's Mercy Park on July 29. Further details for that evening will be announced in the near future.

He was also a key member of the American Royal board and a major contributor. He frequently bid on prize animals in junior livestock shows and established scholarships for high school students.

His generosity will stay alive through the Patterson Family Foundation.
