Sporting Kansas City managed a huge win at Children’s Mercy Park Tuesday night over FC Dallas. The win allowed Sporting to advance to US Open Cup semifinals.
The team did it without their stars who are getting ready for their US Men’s National Team match against Martinique. The men are missed but the nation is getting to reap the benefits of their talents.
Since getting called to the US Men’s National Team, Dom Dwyer has had a string of excellent performances, two goals in two games.
“It’s great and it’s always nice to score. A little disappointed. I wish we could have gotten all three points tonight but there’s positives to take from the game,” Dwyer said of the game against Ghana.
“He does a lot of work up there for us. It was great to see him get on the score sheet again,” said teammate Matt Besler.
It is still early in Gold Cup play, and because of that, the coach of the US men’s team is hard to impress.
“He’s been a good player for us. It’s interesting to work with him and some of his qualities. We’re still getting to know him as a player, but he’s done well. His job is to score goals, and he’s proven he can do that, so he’s off to a good start,” Coach Bruce Arena said of Dwyer.
Arena and the Americans face Martinique Wednesday night for the second time.
A perfect group stage is out due to their tie with Panama last Saturday, but hopefully we will see more from Dwyer, Besler, and Graham Zusi at 8 p.m. central time for the game.
