KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A new website called TruePeopleSearch.com is creating shock waves when it comes to privacy.

All someone needs are your first and last name and the city in which you live to pull up things like their address, a map to their home, cell phone number and landline number, along with the personal information for all your family members.

It’s easy to remove yourself by clicking on the record removal request.

But the problem KCTV5 News found is not one person we asked knew their information was on the website. We asked two KCTV5 employees to test the website. They have both since removed their information and were stunned at what the website revealed about them.

“Oh my gosh,” said 23-year-old Morgan Cormack. “That’s pretty frightening. I didn’t expect it to have all the information there,” Cormack said.

Kaylyn Gimber, 29, is in the same boat.

“You can click on it and map out exactly where I live! Wow!" Gimber said.

Both women say they thought they had gone to great lengths to keep their information private, particularly on social media.

But technology expert Burton Kelso says the information on websites like TruePeopleSearch.com is not coming from social media.

“Nobody should be shocked at all,” Kelso said.

Kelso says if you’ve ever bought anything online and had it shipped to your home, entered into a contract with a business like a cable provider, Internet provider or cell service provider, your information might have been sold or shared with a third party.

He also says the information is collected from marriage licenses, divorce filings, birth records, death records and tax records.

Kelso recommends the website www.accountkiller.com to get you started with removing your personal information from the internet.

He says there are dozens of websites like TruePeopleSearch.com and usually you need to go to each individual website and remove yourself.
