One man has been charged after a 5-year-old child was shot in the leg in Lenexa.

The shooting happened at the Crossland Economy Studios at 9775 Lenexa Dr. around midnight Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Antwaun Fulton was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal discharge. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

The child is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Lenexa Police Department.

According to police, the victim was shot after an altercation between two adults led to the gunshots being fired.

Investigators say Fulton was at the center of a disturbance at the studios. When police arrived, they saw the 5-year-old girl bleeding.

"Not only is a child injured and upset and needing first aid, but you're also concerned with Officer safety," said Lenexa police officer Danny Chavez. "You may not know right away that the suspect is not still there. You don't know that the people you're dealing with the may or may not be armed."

Lenexa police kept paramedics back and performed first aid on the little girl themselves until they knew it was safe.

The case remains under investigation. If you have more information, call the Lenexa Police Department at 913-825-8065 or the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
