WARRENSBURG, MO (KCTV) -

Sixteen dogs were abandoned in Warrensburg last week.

They are being cared for at the city’s animal shelter.

They call them the sweet 16 and range from 10 months to 5 years old.

“They were all severely matted. They had a severe flea infestation,” said Sarah Patton from the Warrensburg Animal Shelter.

The dogs came from Michael Ogle’s property and he is being charged with 16 misdemeanor counts of animal neglect.

“Through our examination process, we found that many of them had the skin on the pads of their paws coming off,” Patton said.

Patton says some of the dogs are friendly while others are terrified of humans.

“The condition that they came in, they had been that way for quite some time. We can’t say exactly how long they’d been in that condition but it’s more than a couple days worth of neglect,” Patton said.

Some of the dogs may be in the early stages of pregnancy, according to Patton.

The dogs are not ready for adoption, that decision will come from the courts.
