KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A 73-year-old woman is speaking out after she was attacked in her Kansas City residence on Sunday.

Beverly Petitt was watching TV Sunday morning when she was attacked.

"All of a sudden, this towel comes around my head and across my mouth and he's got it crossed in the back real tight and I'm petrified and I'm like, 'who are you who are you?'"

Witnesses say a man got into the secure building by sneaking in behind a blind woman and he headed straight for Petitt's apartment.

She says at first, she was afraid she was about to be raped because he grabbed her between the legs.

"He stood up and he said, 'you got any credit cards or cash?' I said no, 'I ain't got no money.' He picked my billfold up out of my purse. He could see it was sitting right beside me."

She says once the attacker realized she didn't have a lot of cash on her, he told her he must have had the wrong apartment and started to walk out the door.

Security footage captured the man walking into the building but at the request of the Kansas City Police Department, KCTV5 is not releasing those images at this time.
