KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

In the Kansas City Crossroads, a group of entrepreneurs chase the dream Neal Patterson once pursued: creating Kansas City’s next great startup.

“I think he really really influenced a lot of entrepreneurs with a vision of what KC could be. We really lost a great leader,” said Herb Sih, CEO of Think Big Partners.

Think Big Partners is a resource for new companies working to take their business to the next level.

Sih said Cerner’s growth and Patterson’s life offer many lessons for young companies.

“Building a company takes a lot of time. There are a lot of challenges. Neal Patterson’s perseverance and dedication proved to be very fruitful to Kansas City and for humanity,” Sih said.

In the past 30 years, Patterson’s company created a ripple effect, leading other entrepreneurs to start their own businesses.

“You have a Cerner family tree, if you will,” said Adam Arredondo of the KC Startup Foundation.

Arredondo said Cerner employees often go on to lead their own companies, inspired in part by the company’s founder.

“That’s what we work to fuel everyday. Bringing in more companies that have the opportunity to do that,” Arredondo said.

It is the perfect startup story. A global tech company that started on a park bench in Kansas City.

“I think it will be a huge testament to what Neal created to see what Cerner will become,” said Arredondo.

Patterson’s story has inspired the next generation of Midwestern entrepreneurs.
