OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

The city of Overland Park is receiving national attention for being named one of the top 15 ‘wellthiest’ cities in America.

Women’s Health teamed up with Yelp to pinpoint the happiest and healthiest communities in America, and Overland Park made the cut.

The national magazine sites the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens as one of the main reasons Overland Park was chosen.

The gardens contain 300 acres of walking trails, art and sculptures, and it is easy to spend an entire day hiking along Wolf Creek.

Gloria Pinkerton comes to the arboretum often with her two grandchildren, and she loves it.

"They have amenities a lot of cities don't have. It's really neat," Pinkerton exclaimed.

The arboretum is open year-round and has programs for every age. It is $3 per adult, $1 for kids 6-12, and kids under 6 years old are free.

The magazine also recognizes the massive soccer complex, Farmer’s Market and Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead as contributing factors in their decision.

Yelp claims its team of data scientists came to the results by parsing how many healthy-lifestyle businesses and amenities each city in America offers, how often people use those businesses and the ratings of those businesses and services.

“Whether it’s getting farm fresh food at a farmer’s market or going to the Overland Park Arboretum, there’s so many things to do, places to ride your bike, places to be outdoors, really calming scenes in Overland Park, and I think that’s why it stood out,” observed Adam Schaumburg, Yelp Kansas City Community Manager.

Overland Park is in good company, as other cities chosen include Albuquerque, New Mexico; Anchorage, Alaska; Austin, Texas; Portland, Oregon; and Virginia Beach.
