KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Thieves snuck inside a KCK home to steal from two women while they slept - and it was caught on camera.

The intruders took off with their keys and both of their vehicles.

The neighbor says while his cameras were recording, thieves rummaged through his vehicle near Eaton Street in Kansas City, KS.

A security camera captured two strangers on Eric Trembath's porch. Trembath said the men tried and failed to get in his front door. They left, but not before they looked directly at his security camera.

“One was with a flashlight that he had stolen out of my truck,” Trembath said. “He decided to put his hoodie up to squeeze it around his face."

Trembath later discovered his next door neighbors, including Elizabeth Cook, were also targeted by the thieves.

Cook and her roommate were asleep when thieves broke into their home.

"That's really scary," Cook said. "That's the really scary part. We are very lucky that they were just after material goods and they didn't come into our bedrooms."

The thieves stole their keys and vehicles, but investigators quickly recovered Cook's Kia Soul. A woman spotted it and called police.

Neighbors hope tips will help police put an end to the crime spree.

"I feel like they should be caught and held accountable for their actions,” Trembath said. “We are really close on our street. It's sad that they don't have that sense of community.”
