Officials seek information after body found in flaming car near Lawrence

DOUGLAS COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is looking for more information about what led up to an accident that left one person dead in a flaming car.

Deputies discovered a blue Hyundai Sonata on fire in the 1600 block of N 1650 Road shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Officials say it appears the vehicle left the road and hit an unoccupied farm truck before catching fire.

A body was discovered in the vehicle.  A teenager, also in the vehicle, was able to escape the flames and was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The identity of the body found in the car has not been confirmed. The Sheriff's Office is waiting for autopsy results before the identity of the person will be confirmed. The identity of the teen inside the vehicle has also not been released.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help.
