BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

Family members are remembering a man who was found dead during an assault investigation in Blue Springs, MO.

Even in his 70s, Harvey Baldwin could still boogie.

Paul Campbell, Baldwin's nephew, says he was amazing. He says the United State Marine Corps veteran and former steelworker liked to keep busy.

“He gave and gave and gave to provide for his family. He worked hard,” Campbell said.

Police found Baldwin dead in his home on Friday, after responding to an assault call. They have not yet released the cause of his death.

“I never thought this tragedy would happen,” Campbell said. “My heart just dropped.”

Baldwin recently retired from working as a custodian at Blue Springs High School. His family says he enjoyed mentoring young people.

Campbell says he was one of those young people, and says as a troubled teen his uncle took him into his home.

“He gave me the opportunity to see what life was all about,” Campbell said. “Turned my whole life around.”

Police would later arrest Baldwin's grandson for the assault of another family member at the home. He was caught driving Baldwin's stolen truck.

Family members say the 76-year-old man had been trying to help the young man.

“It was shocking to me to see someone help you, then you turn on that person,” Campbell said. “Why would you do that?”

Campbell and other family members are grieving, but they're also focusing on memories of Harvey Baldwin. A man they say would give anyone a hand.
