(KCTV) -

Thunderstorms pounded the Kansas City area with rain Tuesday morning, trapping one person in high water and giving a rainy commute to others.

The rain started pouring suddenly around 7:30 a.m. and continued to fall on the area. Scattered showers and storms are expected throughout the morning and into the evening, mostly in areas along and south of Interstate 70.

The high temperature in the day is expected to be in the mid-80s, with a mostly cloudy sky. StormTrack5's weather forecast gives a 30 percent chance of storms heading into the 9 p.m. hour, when fireworks celebrations are expected to begin.
