DE SOTO, KS (KCTV) -

A VFW fireworks tent was robbed over the weekend in De Soto.

Kim Bedford of the VFW runs the tent.

“This post works so hard during this week,” said Bedford.

The stand is a not-for-profit the veterans group uses to raise money for its service projects.

“We give back to the community, that’s what it’s all about,” stated Mark Leisten, a VFW member.

“We usually camp here for four to five days,” informed Bedford.

Normally, someone sleeps inside the fireworks tent to keep watch, but this weekend was too hot, and thieves used the opportunity to break in. They stole more than $1,100 worth of fireworks.

“We’re all frustrated because all this money we make, no one gets it in their pocket. It all goes to the VFW,” commented Leisten.

The VFW and the De Soto community are offering a $700 reward in cash and fireworks for information about the theft.

“We hope someone sees it and turns it in,” Leisten pleaded.

“We love to support our community and our veterans and all of the programs this money goes to,” explained Bedford.

The veterans group said the tent is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.
